Blogging 101: First steps you need to do to get traffic on your blog

  1. First thing’s first, in order to generate traffic, you need to be indexed by the search engines so that you can receive search engine traffic. To see if your site is already indexed by Google, type "site:YOURWEBSITEURL" in the google search box example: and google came up with search results, then your site is indexed. If it is go to step 3, if not, read on.

  2. If you're not indexed, submit your site to google so it can be indexed: to submit to Yahoo, go to:

  3. Once your site is indexed, then you can get traffic from the millions of people using Google and Yahoo.

  4. For a faster way to get indexed, submit your blog to different blog directories. Just search for “blog directory” in Google and you can now have a list of different directories you can submit your site to. Look for blog directories with high Page Rank so you can be indexed faster. Install the Google toolbar to see the page rank of different sites or just search google for “page rank checker” to manually see a website’s pagerank.

  5. Of course, being indexed is just the first steps, you can’t exactly be searched if you have no content on your blog to search for so you need to put content on your blog. If you’re building content, be sure to add keywords on your content. For example, if you’re doing a product review, be sure to put in the product name every so often but be careful in stuffing it with keywords or Google will flag your site and penalize you.

  6. Exchange links with other blogs in the same category. If you have submitted your site to a blog directory, try searching for blogs with the same theme as yours and then contact the owners to see if they’re interested in link exchange.

  7. Frankly, I think the most important thing you need to do in order to drive traffic to your blog is CONTENT. If you have interesting content, people will either link to your blog or would be interested in coming back to read more of your blog entries.
