Comparing PLDT DSL, Bayantel DSL, and Destiny Cable Internet

I was able to try out three broadband Internet Service Providers this year alone. Two of them I tried out just last month. Anyways, here’s my take on the above mentioned internet service providers.

PRICE

PLDT. The first plan I have subscribed to at PLDT DSL was their plan 999. Back then, speed for this plan is at 384Kbps. This has now increased to 1 Mbps. I don’t know whether they still have a lower plan as the lowest one advertised on their website is 1 Mbps.

Bayantel. Bayantel’s lowest subscription plan is 899. The subscribed speed is 768 Kbps but it is “burstable” up to 1 Mpbs when surfing at off-peak hours, between 10 pm and 6 am.

Destiny. The lowest subscription for Destiny Cable Internet is also 999. However, if you ask their customer service representative, speed is from 256 kpbs – 1 Mbps and I quote, “depending on your area”.

In terms of pricing and cheapest subscription plan, Bayantel beats the other two by P100.

SPEED

PLDT. Like I said, PLDT’s advertised speed is 1 Mbps. There are times when I actually feel like their speed is 1 Mbps but most of the times, it’s actually just 384-768 kpbs. The week before I completely lost connection, it was around 76 kbps. I’m not kidding you. I use www.testmy.net and CNET’s broadband speed test and both of them says my connection is 28-76kbps. Before PLDT increased the speed of their 999 subscribers, I even rarely get to have a 384 kbps speed. There was a time that for a whole month, I barely reach 50% of my subscribed speed.

Bayantel. I was only able to test Bayantel’s service for two weeks. There was a problem with my connection and when I called their hotline their “technical team” said that there was a legal issue with the facilities where my line is connected so they can’t give a definite time as to when they can fix it. I was able to make use of Bayantel’s money-back guarantee so I never paid them anything. For the time that I’ve used Bayantel, my speed did reach 1 Mbps during off peak hours and 768 during regular hours. Compared with PLDT DSL, I was rarely disconnected nor did I experience “intermittent” connection.

Destiny. I’ve only been using Destiny Cable Internet for a week. So far, the speed I’m getting during regular hours is 256 kbps. However, speed varies when downloading or browsing. I feel like my browsing speed is much faster than my downloading speed. 256 kbps is nothing compared with Bayantel, but then again, it’s better than 76 kbps or no internet at all.

Bayantel gets my vote for speed. 768 kbps compared with 1 Mbps seems like a no-brainer, but then again, PLDT’s connection is so unreliable that I’m thinking of suing them for false advertisement.

SERVICE

PLDT. When you call PLDT’s helpline, someone for sure will answer you on the fourth to sixth ring. You don’t wait for more than 30 minutes redialing or waiting for someone to answer. However, when someone does answer you and your problem isn’t resolved with the usual, “turn off your modem, reset your pc, etc” troubleshooting, they will say that they will forward your concern with their “technical department” and then someone would contact you. You wait for 24 hours but no technical team contacts you. You follow up your concern and then CSR will just apologize and say something that your request is still in the works. One week after, their technical person shows up on your front door.

Honestly, the reason I left PLDT is their service. I hate the fact that you have to talk to a CSR instead of a person with the actual technical knowledge of their system, plus the fact that their system is so full of subscribers that they probably can’t attend to the needs of each and everyone. Hands down, PLDT’s service is the crappiest service EVER. Whether it be with their sister company like Smart or Smart Bro, it’s all the same: sucks, sucks, sucks! I am SO glad that I wasn’t swayed when one of their marketing people called up our house and offered us 1 month free service in exchange that we are locked in again for another year.

Bayantel. When you call up Bayantel’s helpline, you have to wait for someone to pick up. You’re one lucky person if you are able to get hold of a CSR during your first call. Most of the times, you have to redial the number ten to twenty times before someone picks up. However, the good news is, you’re directed to their “technical team”. Their troubleshooting doesn’t only involve resetting your modem and the one answering actually has access to their network. If you’re experiencing no connection, they would troubleshoot it right away on their system to see whether the problem is on their part or on your part.

Another good thing about Bayantel is their money-back guarantee and their rebate. With their money-back guarantee, if you are not satisfied with their service, within 15 days after your first down payment, you can ask for a refund. Of course, the reason should not be whimsical, you should have an actual problem that they can’t solve. On my part, it was a legal issue and they have admitted that they cannot give me a time frame on when my connection would be fixed so I was able to get my money back. With their rebate program, if you have a problem with your connection that they can’t solve within 24 hours, you will get a 500 peso rebate. If you are subscribed to plan 899, their lowest plan, you have to give them two days to resolve your problem, otherwise, you will get a rebate for your whole month’s subscription.

Destiny. With Destiny cable, if you are able to get a hold of their CSR within your first call, then rejoice because you are the luckiest person on Earth. There was only one time that I was able to get through their number, 841-93-93 and that was the time when I was just going to ask about their rates. Fortunately, I was able to get hold of the number for their branch office near my area. That number was not busy and they were able to send over their technical team within the day. Now THAT’s fast service. However, I’m only a subscriber for a few days so I’m still reserving my judgment and will be updating this post from time to time.

In terms of service, again, Bayantel gets my vote. However, if I’m able to reach the Destiny Branch whenever I have connection problems and if they are able to send in their technical team within the day, then I’ll update my post and give my vote to Destiny.

Conclusion

I really have high hopes for Bayantel. I wish that they are able to resolve whatever legal issues they have so that when my lock-in period expires with Destiny Cable (BTW, lock-in period for Destiny is only ten months), I would be able to subscribe with them again. From what I see, if Bayantel’s rebate program is regular, then you really can’t lose. You won’t have to pay for anything if you don’t have internet connection for more than two days, granted of course that you’re able to reach their CSR in the first place in order to report your problem.

I’m still in the middle with Destiny as I can’t really make fast judgment in only five days or so, but so far so good. I know I’ve heard people complain about Bayantel, especially in Bayantel’s forums but I bet if they tried PLDT’s service they would think differently.

UPDATE:

Sorry I wasn't able to update as promised. This post seems popular, thanks for your input in the comments section. First, here's my update. I got around 9 months of service from Destiny Cable Internet without any problems whatsoever. I was really pleased with them until we have to relocate to Fairview area, BTW, my original location is Proj. 8, Quezon City. Anyways, Destiny said that they can't relocate my connection to Fairview because they don't have internet service there.

It was such a bummer so we applied to Bayantel DSL once again. They have a connection in Fairview and we subscribed to their 799 per month promo, the time when Lola Techie was so popular. We stayed in Fairview for 4 months and we never had a problem with Bayantel's connection. We had to relocate to our original location in Proj. 8 and since we were still locked in with Bayantel, we asked that they move the line to our original location in Proj. 8. They did that and so my current connection now is with Bayantel and we have been subscribed for more than a year. I stick with my original review that it seems that Bayantel is the best internet service provider that I've encountered. I get the speed which I've subscribed for, 512-728 Mbps with burst speeds of up to 1Mbps during off peak hours. Not bad. As for the customer service, it's really good. You're connected with their technical department who actually knows what they're doing. They would try to reset your connection from their end and if that doesn't work, they'll send someone over. My only complaint is that their technical personnel would arrive late than the promised time but they got the job done.

Of course, I can't vouch for Bayantel in other areas but for me, I'm a satisfied customer. I was tempted to try Sky cable's DSL but I'm a current subscriber to their cable TV service and their customer service sucks. We haven't had cable TV for weeks and I was afraid that their DSL service suffers from the same crappy customer service so no thanks, I think I'll stick with Bayantel. As they say, if it ain't broken, don't fix it. My relationship with Bayantel isn't broken--yet, just as long as they deliver my subscribe speed and have good customer service, I'll be sticking with them.

I've been a BayanDSL subscriber since 2005 and I am really satisfied with their service. True, it takes a long time to actually get to talk to someone when you call their hotline, but I like that you actually get answers and they actually help your connection problems.

natalie1981 said...

Yep, the first time I called Bayantel's support, I was pleasantly surprised that instead of saying, "we will forward your concern to our technical group", I was actually talking to the technical group.

That's good service there. However, I wish that they would add more manpower, para di mapudpud daliri mo kakadial ng number nila. :D

i am using smartbro and so far so good naman.. its just that when it rains or its weekend my connection is slower than a turtle and when u call their CSR on nighttime it will take u forever to stay on hold and they will just say that they will report my concern to technical support.. i've heard bad feedbacks about bayantel..hmm..but i am now thinking of switching between landline + internet subscription and i am considering bayantel for that since pldt's office personnel sucks when i inquired to them..dang!

I am also a bayantel subscriber since 2006 and I also experience the rebate. I am one of those satisfied customer of Bayantel. How about globe?

natalie1981 said...

Globe was my second choice when I have unsubscribed to Bayantel. Unfortunately, their technical team didn't call me so that could either be one of two things: there's no available line in my area or, their CSR is like PLDT who can't return calls.

natalie1981 said...

@ weng. Also heard complaints about SmartBro. Some even call it, SmartBroken. I guess each ISPs have their own share of unsatisfied customers.

Ived been a Globe Broadband subscriber for about a year plan 999 + phone, so far i has brought me problems and complains especially with intermittent connections and for the phone line it cannot make outbound calls. I think it has problems with thier facilities coz for the phone it wasnt resolved for a year while internet disconnects everytime it rains. So i suggest to think twice before getting this as your ISP.

Anonymous said...

I heard Destiny Cable makes use of the same physical cable to feed cable TV signal and carry DSL data. Does this make the broadband data speed slower ? Any comment or experience ? Thanks

natalie1981 said...

Yes, I think Destiny does that but so far, I was really happy with the service I was getting from Destiny. I'm currently no longer a subscriber since I've temporarily moved from my residence and Destiny does not support the area I've relocated to. My account is temporarily on hold but I'm definitely subscribing again once I relocate back.

Smart Broadband has done the worst service ever. Up to the end of my subscription this company have never failed to annoy its customer.
I have cut of my subscription because of the of your ignorance and incompetence to solve connection problem for one month and a week. I have been too patient to wait for answers and when I have asked for my deserved rebate for the past month because of incapability to connect. The company tells that there was no reported technical activity.
I have been calling this company for support for the past month and a week and they have NO TECHNICAL REPORT. This is doesn`t make sense. No wonder you can`t fix the problem.
They have issued me tons of service reference for incident report and Smart Bro accounting didn`t get any technical report.
The Service Reference information they issue is useless as well as your technical staff and call centers.
They had been reaping off money from thier customers. This has been the worst service group I have ever encountered.
I will not recommend thier internet service to anybody I know.

I tried SmartBro and Sun's wireless internet w/e. During the first months, they are really satisfying my needs but after 3months or so the fastest speed I get is 0.03MBPS. Damn. Sun's USB becomes loose as time goes by.

So I applied for BayanDSL, what I hate about it is that they cannot assure me how long will they install my connection.

And then I applied for SkyBroadband hoping to get internet connection ASAP. Technicians came after 2 days, they started installing it then after hours of waiting they did not come back, I went to the post they are working at and found no one there. I called their CS, the one I talked to was a fucking bitch. She keeps on telling me to wait with an annoyed tone of voice. It's been a week and I haven't got any call from them. Bitch = SkyBro.

Should I keep on waiting for BayanDSL or take another risk in applying for PLDTmyDSL?

yup you described everything right ... especially the customer service part ...

bayantel and digitel's approach to trouble shooting is the same ... they start on their network ... then slowly going back to your phone right at your site ... which is actually FAVORABLE to ALL SUBSCRIBERS

unlike PLDT ... they keep on blaming your setup ... they keep saying that the problem is on your end ... on your PC on your network etc. etc. etc. ... but does not resolve anything but wasting of your time ... just like saying that the problem is YOU ... very very infavorable to subcribers

PLDT Call Center Agents are just full of alibi's and not sincere with commitments promising you that things would go right 24 hours, or within a day ... then you won't notice that it's becoming a week to months

i just hope one day DIGITEL DSL's speed would be able to catch up with PLDT's DSL speed so that we will have a better choice

I don't know where you people have Bayandsl but in Gerneral Santos City it has been months without a stable connection.. Will connect for 30 seconds on 121.96.221.59 then disconnect. Will return with 110.55.166.21 ( these are the client servers) then disconnect again this time maybe being off for 10 or 12 hours, then connect again. They have never offered a rebate. They do send someone to your home but what good is this??? The problem is not in the home, it is THEIR problems. This is Dec 24 and the connection when off at 12:30 am, came back again at 7:30 am last 2 minutes. It is now 8:45 and has connect and reconnect 6 times since 7:30.

so many complaints against philippine telco companies and their crappy services. why is nobody initiating a class-action suit to force these companies to deliver the services they promise?

natalie1981 said...

@Anne: Because the judicial system is SOOO SLOWWWW. It will probably take 15 years to finish and the courts will probably just award you P50k max. That's the reason why Telcos can string people like us along.

If the judiciary is as fast as the system in the US then we probably won't get crappy services from them.

Anonymous said...

Just had my PLDTmyDSL & phone back after a week of stress of no Internet. Worst is that this happened when PLDT's contractor LATELCO switched our neighbors line with ours...so at least we have a working phone with my neighbor's number (grrr!). I agree that PLDT service is really bad.

Bayantel has been the very best connection here in the Philippines. Why? Because a connection means that you can be connected almost 24 hours everyday. Rather than others, not siding though, they would disconnect each and every time to update and refresh their connections. Bayantel will not let you down (like Rexona). Maybe wi-fis are good but they could be gapped by wi-fi routers. That's why they're offering high-bursted internet connections. Bayantel also replaces your modem if they have new ones although they need you to request one. Talking about the customer service helpline, I had been a subscriber of PLDT last 6 years ago. They would promise to send these nigga teams to your houses. After 1 week or so, you will end up tangled on your computer seats waiting for them. Bayantel customer service helpline ensures on the spot that your call is not wasted. They will try almost everything. They provide remote and actual support considering that the problem could be solved. They will just check them and reset them. Yes, he said it right. After these, your connection is as good as new unlike disconnecting for several hours and having a backhead pain. Bayantel is the best. Hoping for more improvements from them ;)

I have been using different broadband connections already. i need one that's fast (peak hours) and RELIABLE. I used Sun broadband but whenever it rains, there goes my connection. Mashado nila pinanindigan pangalan nila. I used Globe but habang tumatagal, tumataas lang alta presyon ko kasi mga sinungaling CSR nila AT walang kwenta gamitin ang service kasi parating nadidisconnect, no matter where I am. Ang PLDT naman napaka unreliable. I checked WiTribe pero hindi ako satisfied sa mga reviews nila. I think I'll give Bayantel a shot. Thanks for the review!

Hi everyone,

part one

I've been a subscriber of Globe and the service cant get any worse ON THE FIRST MONTH of subscription. I've been through hell with this company from the very beginning. And i thought they are the good guys who try to stick it up with the evil PLDT. Man how wrong i was.

1. When i applied in cyberzone brance (mega) the csr who handled my application form MISPLACED it. and i waited for 2 weeks plus when they promised that i'd get connected with in 5 days. i called after 5 days and they said that it *actually* its 7-10 days. Its not until i came back to mega, only then they found that the STUPID csr misplaced the damn form. I was like "Dude how the hell DO YOU FUCK UP YOUR ONLY JOB!" but okay fine we found the form lets get on with it.
2. 1st month of connection or rather CRAPPY CONNECTION! its really irritating when i received my first bill. the connection SUCKS! RTO (Request timed out) and DC all the time. there was never a day my connection did not disconnected.
3. i called their hotline to get it fixed. after 5 days of waiting someone finally came to my house and replaced my modem. still the same so i called again to complain (i was really patient at that point) and the call center agent said they'd handle it again. i waited for a week with constant call. the answer i get was that the problem was not on my end but on the *facility* and they said they are taking care of it already. then on day ateam from *accredited* tech company came to my house to check my connection. all they did was ping and speedtest...then hear this, they concluded that the problem was in the *cabinet*. cont..

Anonymous said...

part two

when i heard that i asked the guy why its just then they concluded that the problem is in the facility when all the while i thought they are ALREADY fixing it. all he said was that it was only then that they received the job order number. i was so infuriated with that! i mean they keep telling me that they are repairing my line when nothing was actually happening. but i held my horses because at least finally someone is doing something. i thought maybe i'll give them a chance. the guy gave told me he is going to give me his number and change my port the next day then he will text me to observe. the next day they texted me saying they already changed my port. but the line was still the same. lag at times, crappy as hell. i texted the number of the guy again and told him that i still have the problem. all he said is that he's going to change my port again. the next day i texted his number a couple of times and he never replied after that. i called globe again and they said someone will come to my house.
they would call in the afternoon when i was in school and could not accomodate them. they would ask what time am i available and i will always say in the morning. the agent will **NOTE** that but the internet guys will only come to my house in the afternoon when i am not around despite telling them that i am not around at noon.
then weekend came finally someone came again in the afternoon. but this time it a different team! and the process starts all over again.
they are going to change my port tomorrow and ask me to observe.

WHAT happened to the original support team? what happened to their trouble shooting procedure? Why are they sending another team, who apparently do not have any idea what the first team did to my line and are just repeating the same troubleshooting procedure the first team did. it has become apparent to me that they cant fix my line and all they talk is just to get me off the line whenever i called.
GLOBE DOESNT CARE SH*T ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERs! just like PLDT! They are just inept, disorganized, lying, pseudo "experts" who dont really have an idea of what they are doing.

So if you are looking for another ISP, THINK TWICE BEFORE GOING TO GLOBE! they'll just waste your time, money, and they WILL cause you TONS of STRESS.

I know Eastern Telecoms is hardly known. But I just want you guys to know that in my more than 2 years of subscription with them, I got excellent service in both ISP provision and technical support the few times I encountered problems. AND MANY THANKS FOR YOUR POSTS, NATALIE.

I am currently using a Sun modem, paying 799 monthly for their unli, and so far I'm very satisfied.

I've been using BayanDSL for aboout 2 years and still the connection is stable @700+ Kbps. Download speed? 300MB Files for 1 Hr, compared to my friend who's using PLDC(PLDT), It took him a day before he finnish the same download. So I go for Bayantel!

Anonymous said...

im using Bayantel DSL for almost two years now, and I'm very happy with my connection. Downtime happens rarely, and if you try to call the attention of the technical support thay can send the technician to your home within 1 to 3 days.

For those looking what Sky Broadband is like don't even try it.

Right now I'm disconnecting to Sky Broadband & will return to Bayan. here's why well at 1st they have extremely fast speeds but after 3 months you will get frequent disconnections & it doesn't end there right before your connection ends you will experience terrible speeds you'll have de javu of the Dial-up connections you can still access some sites but in some sites it usually lags & doesn't even open it & you will have to refresh a dozen times just to open it. In terms of Customer Service you will have to listen to a recorded voice saying Sorry for the inconvenience as their repair, then if you call again you will need to wait up to 30 min. for them to answer your lucky if they answered then when you speak to them they will diagnose it they ask to do reset blah blah, if they can't fix it they will say that it's because of your router & they'll say that it's broken either the router or your LAN Card & they will say that they will send their personnel they will rarely & sometimes nothing then suddenly your net will be fixed again but after days it's back to Dial-up so I'll go back to Bayan again 'cause didn't have this problems before from Bayan & I rarely encounter problems.

Smartbro really sucks. I had an old Smartbro connection with antenna with acceptable speed and infrequent disconnections replaced with SMARTBRO ShareIt and that is when my problems started. Their technician recommended the ShareIt because they were already having problems with the my old connection ( baka madami ng subscriber at malayo sa cell site). But this ShareIt really is terrible. We will be always be disconnected from 10am to 2pm. And the speed is VERY VERY SLOW when we are connected. I have complained about this with SmartBro and they can offer no solution. Plus they will not even offer me an explanation on why my connection is so terrible. My service is locked in for 2 years I believe and I want to pre-terminate this asap. I have never have received good service from PLDT or any of its affiliates. They are good at disconnecting your service whenever you miss your payment because they havent sent the bill to you. You cannot experience this kind of service in US or Japan and we Filipinos have been enduring this kind of service for too long. It really makes me sick thinking about this. So is Bayantel really the best option I have in my office in Fairview QC?

HI,

From what I've gathered out of all the numerous forums I've scoured through, one can't beat the reliability of cable internet yet, compared to all the wirelss providers in the Phil. market. I'm currently in Europe but will be temporarily living with my parents in Q.C., Philippines. I've been racking my brains as to what decent internet connection I should patronize there in the Phils, for my laptop which I'll be mostly using at home there. I don't imagine I'll be surfing day and night there, but during those times I would like to surf, I usually play online games, temporarily download free games w/c average approx 50 Mb in size, and also view streaming videos of my fav tv prog and movies that I've missed. So connection reliability for the least amt of money is an impt issue for me. That's why I've begun to consider the alternative of dsl internet against wireless which has gathered more disgruntled reviews than positive raves. In fact I've often read in forums that for reliability it's still cable internet in the Phils that's the better choice. I'm pepped up by the positive reviews in your article as well as of the commentators on Bayan and Destiny dsl internet. Now it's the yr 2011. Is it really not that much better with the quality of service, regarding wireless internet there in the Phils.? I'm living in Sweden where I'm using wireless plug-it internet like many others. And here it's no problem when I get an average of 1 Mbps download and 0,5-0,69 Mbps upload. After reading all about the real situation of internet service there in the Phils. I'd like to be able to make the best choice in choosing the least headache for ISP.

Very few "Technical expertes" in the Philippines know the difference between Byte (B) and bit (b). 8 bits = 1 Byte. Makes me wonder how these people became technical experts.
Saying that you have to get in writing their actual speed, if it is big B or small b.

uhhmmm from the comments i've read so far, it seems that the internet connection problem is base from where you are residing because i have tried gloobe broadband and there are no problems so far i've encountered. I've no problem in their connection (well there are times that my connectin gets really slow but hey its rare to happen) then we shifted to pldt and so far so good, i dont have any problem in their connectin either. So I think there are Internet that is good for some places and bad from some places.. just my two cents

Customer support for Bayantel is good. If you have a hard time accessing their customer service number, you can directly dial the technical support number, 4112000, for DSL concern. However, there are so many problems with Bayan DSL nowadays...lost connection in mostr areas...you can check their forums here:

I have been using PLDT DSL since 2005. At first, I was satisfied but last 2011, we have started to experience VERY slow connections and we always had problems with the dial-tone of the PLDT phone. The internet connection and phone dial tone was fixed for the nth time but this 2012, it seems the problem emerged again. The PLDT technician who repaired it said it was a problem on our part, our modem, our multiple PCs in the house, etc. I wanna switch to another ISP! I'm tired of PLDT DSL! I pay Php 1700 a month and yet I could not use the worth of my money.

CABLE COMPANIES
Sky and Destiny - these two would shout high connection speeds, yes it is true that the cable connection can deliver those speeds, but here is the catch when you use Cable Internet, lets say your cable internet can deliver up to 5Mbps connection, but the more users there are in the area that cable services the slower the connection gets, the bandwidth gets divided among the users. That would explain why at first when you get connected in your area you get fast speeds, but after a while it gets slower and slower. Because more people are using the bandwidth and you have to share with more people that's the weakness of cable internet versus DSL it can maintain the speed that is advertised.

WIRELESS:
Your wireless internet works almost the same as your cellphone or satellite dish. It is very prone to atmospheric disturbances, rain, thunderstorms, humidity, heat, cold, etc these all affect the signal and degrades it to a certain point. Now why would you have a slow connection on a clear sunny day, the same rule applies with cable connections, for the wireless you access a specific cell site servicing your area. If there are a lot of people accessing the same cell site as you it gets bogged down, too many people trying to connect and you can't connect or you get a slow signal because there are so many of you sharing the bandwitdh the single cell tower is allocated with.

ISP
Here's an ISP trick that I learned from an ISP, (this is purely speculation on my part but I have seen this done on an ISP to manage bandwidth usage) they say you have unlimited internet - they can set your bandwidth limit to a certain number, when you reach that limit the system can either disconnect you or lower down your connection speed. I saw this done on the Dialup days of ISP's.

Ok so that's most of the reasons why I got bayantel. Here are the other ones stated by most of the members I read and have experienced myself.

1) Hard to contact customer service but at least you get to talk to a technician who will troubleshoot with you over the phone.

2) If the tech on the phone can't fix it as I've worked with some of the DSL troubleshooting systems when I was a tech support rep and all I can say there's not much we can do, most of the time the first thing they check if there is an outage in your area to see what might be causing the problem. Then they try to connect to your modem from their end to see if they can get a connection. They'll have you bypass your router and anything else in between to eliminate other causes of problems, they'll check your billing records to see if you paid your bill and you haven't gotten disconnected yet lol :) They'll do a connection test and reset your account - Take note reset your account (Reference the Bandwidth limiting trick hehehe :) if all else fails they'll send a technician over - outsourced service :) but usually they are there after 24 hours which is good, they not only check your modem, pc etc but they also check the cabinet where your line is stored.

3)Burstable speeds X2, m on the 768Kbps plan with a phone line, so from 10pm to 6am I get a 1.5Mbps connection, so I leave the PC on to download the stuff m downloading as this is the time when we have the fastest connection. :)

Bayantel Cons:

So a review wouldn't be fair without the cons, so here goes:

1) Bayantel has issues with Peak hours, experienced this in our San Juan and Fairview locations. During Lunch time to around 1PM and during 6PM-7PM give or take an hour, these are the times when you usually get disconnected, or you're still connected but there is no more data transfer, your connection just stops. It's probably because everyone is on lunch break and wants to get online or everyone just got home and is going online and its just the sheer number of people going online that the system can't cope with the volume. Anyways whats 2 hours a day lol :)

2) When the system starts transitioning to the Burstable Speed or X2 at 10PM you get disconnected and have to reconnect (hint: setup auto redial on your ISP network connection Icon in Windows) that should solve the problem - Settings: wait 5 seconds and reconnect 100 times hehehehe :)

Hhhmm its 10:30 in the morning and while writing this I got disconnected twice. Still tolerable compared to all the other horror stories I've read :) Hope this helps you guys decide on what to use. It helped me a lot make the best choice and get the bang for my buck :)
