Quick remedies for Sore Throat / tonsillitis

Arggh..my tonsillitis is plaguing me again. I think I already have a chronic tonsillitis since sore throat has been plaguing me every month nowadays. I know I should go to the doctor but I have a feeling that they would just recommend removing my tonsils and that’s not an option for me. I could live with a sore throat every month but I don’t think I can live without my tonsils. I don’t want to have a raspy/husky voice associated with the removal of the tonsils.

However, as I still have to endure my sore throat, here are my top three remedies/quick solutions in easing the pain. Hope it helps you too.

  1. Gargle with warm water and salt. This is an effective home remedy for me. I just fill a glass with half warm water then add 1 teaspoon of salt. I gargle the contents and after that, I don’t have to endure the pain for a couple of hours.
  2. Gargle with Bactydol. Bactydol is an over the counter drug which is used mainly to ease sore throat. My formula is the same with the salt water except for the one teaspoon of salt, I add I tablespoon of Bactydol to the warm water.
  3. Lozenges. The best and most effective lozenges for me is Difflam from 3M. Generic name is: Benzydamine Hydrochloride. It really works. After finishing 1 lozenge, there’s a numbing feeling on the roof of your mouth near the tonsils and it really eases my pain.

Just a quick disclaimer though: I’m not a physician. I’m just sharing with you some quick remedies that work for me and it may not work for everybody. Always consult your physician before trying anything of the above out.
