First aid for Ankle Sprain

We've all twisted our ankles at some time in our lives. For some, it might have been a long time ago that they could hardly remember the first aid remedies they did. Anyways, here's just some tips on the first things you should do when you sprain your ankle.

  1. Rest your ankle. Your not Superman and contrary to what some people think that using your sprained ankle would make the pain go away--well, don't believe them. You're hurting yourself in the long run.
  2. Ice it. Put ice on your sprained ankle for 15 minutes at a time. This would reduce swelling.
  3. Wrap it up. Wrap your ankle in an elastic bandage to reduce the stress on your ankles. Wearing lace up boots would also help if you have to leave the house.
  4. Elevate your leg. Place your leg at the level of your heart for during the first 48 hours, applying ice on it on intervals.

After the swelling goes down, you can now walk around and use your leg.
