HTC S740

Ever since I've got my Samsung Omnia, I hardly get excited when the competing company, HTC , announced a new phone. The Samsung Omnia's main rival amongst HTC Sim Free Phones is the HTC Touch Diamond. Anyways, one of the new phones that HTC has announced after their HTC Touch Diamond launch is the HTC S740.

Now the HTC S740 is a bit quirky for me. I mean, it looks like a spawn of Nokia's old communicator phones. Apparently, one keypad isn't enough since HTC decided to incorporate two input option on the HTC S740, a regular phone pad and a QWERTY keypad. The big question is why? Unless the phone has two screens like the Nokia communicator, why would you need two separate input device if you're only using one screen? Nokia's communicators' design made sense since aside from the two keypads, you also have two screens. You can use the Nokia communicator as a regular phone or you can open it up and use it as a mini computer. The HTC S740 doesn't open up, you have to slide out the QWERTY keypad so it means you only have one screen with the same size. Again, what for?

Though the two keypad seem strange, the design also incorporates some of the HTC Touch Diamond's prism like design on the back which is kinda funky. Like the Touch Diamond, the HTC S740 also has a Qualcomm 528Mhz processor and 256MB of RAM which means you can do a lot of multi-tasking on the device and hopefully the device won't hang. The HTC S740 also has a a 3.2 megapixel camera, FM Radio, and GPS.

Like other HTC Phones , the HTC S740 will not be offered exclusively for a particular manufacturer if you're in Europe but the case might not be the same if you're in the US. Expected availability of this device is sometime this October.
