Extended Warranty for Cars

I've seen extended warranty being offered for consumer electronics. It has become common for appliance store in the UK and US to offer extended warranties and before, a lot of people are purchasing them. They're actually like insurance since unlike ordinary warranties wherein damage due to the user's carelessness is not covered, extended warranties cover everything and the store at times might even replace your unit with a new one.

As for extended warranties for cars, I don't know if local dealers offer that kind of thing here. Toyota extended warranty may not be offered by Toyota themselves but third party insurance agents. As far as I know, the standard car warranty in the Philippines is 3 years or the first 100,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.

Now if extended warranty for cars are like the extended warranties for consumer electronics wherein they can replace your car with a new one if it's completely totaled, then I'm all for extended warranties but then insurance companies might become bankrupt (again), so don't expect it to be the same. If you think you'll reach the first 100,000 kilometers of your car before reaching 3 years, then it's best that you opt for extended warranties.
