I've seen extended warranty being offered for consumer electronics. It has become common for appliance store in the UK and US to offer extended warranties and before, a lot of people are purchasing them. They're actually like insurance since unlike ordinary warranties wherein damage due to the user's carelessness is not covered, extended warranties cover everything and the store at times might even replace your unit with a new one.
